As my wedding date gets nearer, I think it's time for me to pick up some healthy diets and lifestyle to maintain good skin and shape. I read online that there are multiple benefits of drinking warm lemon honey water and warm cinnamon honey water. So I started drinking warm lemon honey water in the morning and warm cinnamon honey water before bed.
Benefits of lemon, honey and cinnamon:
1. Cleanse the system
Lemon is effective in flushing out the body waste and helps in detoxification of the body. Honey helps prevent constipation. I've tried it and it's true. Since I started this routine, there's no more constipation for me.
2. Improve immune system
Honey and lemon help to improve the immune system, while cinnamon has anti-bacteria properties and can help to fight flu bugs.
3. Balance PH levels
Diseases such as cancer thrive well in acidic bodies. Lemon has high content of citric acid, but once in the body, lemon becomes alkaline in nature. Honey and cinnamon has anti-oxidant properties. Hence, honey, cinnamon and lemon can help to prevent cancer.
4. Healthy skin
Honey and lemon help to maintain healthy skin. Lemon have skin whitening effects due to the high content of Vitamin C. I have experimented it myself before. I used to have brown spots and rough skin on my arms. After squeezing out the lemon juice to make lemon honey water, I used the remaining lemon skin and pulp to rub my arms. After a few months, my arms became smoother and the brown spots were lightened too.
5. Freshens breath
Although lemon helps to freshen breath in the morning, it also aggravate my sensitive teeth due to its high content of citric acid because citric acid can erode tooth enamel. Do not brush teeth directly after drinking lemon honey water! There was once when I drank warm lemon honey water first, then I went to brush my teeth immediately. Hell! My teeth got the achy and sensitive feel for the rest of the day. In order to reduce the effects of the citric acid on the teeth, brush teeth before drinking lemon honey water and gargle with salt water or water after drinking lemon honey water.
6. Aids in weight loss
This is the most important reason why I started drinking lemon honey and cinnamon honey water. I had tried drinking lemon honey water many years ago and it was proven to be effective, I have lost about 8Kg in a year. Of course, with the help of exercising and maintain a healthy diet. I read that cinnamon aids in weight loss too as it balances the blood sugar.
7. Soothes indigestion
The antiseptic properties of honey helps to relieve acidity in the stomach and neutralized the gases, thus help to sooth indigestion.
8. Reduce cholesterol
Honey and cinnamon help to reduce cholesterol and lower blood pressure. Cinnamon is also beneficial for heart disease and diabetes patients.
9. Relieve menstrual cramp
I read online that cinnamon can relieve menstrual cramp. I usually have super bad cramps but this month, it was not as painful, although I still got the discomfort feel. I shall monitor for another month before I come up with a conclusion.
10. Aids in a good night sleep
Drinking honey before bed can help in having a good night sleep. It will also help our body to burn fats while we are sleeping. Hmm. This is too good to be true.
Effects of lemon
All along I have the impression that eating fruits that are sour will cause my period to come earlier, more painful and heavier flow. But lemon delayed my period instead, until I stopped drinking lemon honey water. The flow was a little bit heavier than previous months though. During my period, I stop taking lemon honey water and replace the morning drink with cinnamon honey water.
I have gastric problems so I actually cut down the amount of lemon I use in the lemon honey water and I must eat breakfast after drinking it. I have read online that people recommend replacing breakfast with lemon honey water. I will not recommend people who have gastric problems to do this. On days when I already feel very hungry in the morning or my stomach is already not comfortable, I will drink cinnamon honey instead.
Buying pure honey
Since I consume honey everyday, I must ensure the honey that I buy is pure, beneficial honey. If I bought those that contain artificial sugar, it will instead do more harm to my body.
How to identify real, pure honey?
Unfortunately, you can't really tell just by looking at it. But there are a few tips here.
1. Overturn the bottle of honey, it should form a round bubble that will float slowly to the top. If it floats fast, the water content of that bottle of honey is quite high.
2. Drip the honey into a cup, it should drip in a continuous flow. If it break in between, chances are some artificial sugar was added to it.
3. Add a spoonful of honey and put it in a cup of water. Do not stir. 10 minutes later, check back. If the honey does not dissolve, it's real honey. If it dissolves, it probably has artificial sugar and water. Pure honey will not dissolve easily in water, need to stir it for it to dissolve.
