TGIF Dinner at a very Japanese feel and cozy ramen shop at Orchid Hotel, 1 Tras Link, Tanjong Pagar.
I have been wanting to try the ramen at Tonkotsu King as every time I walked pass it, there's a long long queue. Finally today, we decided to just queue no matter how long it takes.
There is free cold barley tea outside the shop for patrons who are queuing, quite a nice gesture! While queuing, you can decide what to order. Take the order form and a pen from the table outside the shop and tick according to your preference. Oh! Take one order form for each bowl of ramen. They will cook according to your preference.
There are mainly 3 types of ramen, the normal one, black spicy and red spicy. We both ordered the normal and add $4 for Special All Toppings (consists of a big piece of seaweed, a flavoured egg and a thinner piece of chashu). If having all the toppings is not what you want, you can just tick seaweed for $1 or flavoured egg for $2. There's also choices of light, normal, strong for the soup. No oil, less oil, normal or more oil. Hard, normal or soft for the noodles. You can also choose not to have spring onions, black fungus or chashu if don't like these ingredients. We love such customisation!
So finally, it's our turn! it's a bit squeezy in there but that's fine, you will concentrate just on the freebies and ramen anyway.
What freebies do they have? Free water, free barley tea outside the shop which can be brought into the ramen shop, free hard-boiled eggs, chilly sesame bean sprouts, japanese mayonnaise and there's a little bowl of sesame which was really fragrance after we ground it.
Here comes the main lead. Ramen!
The broth was heavenly! One of the best I have eaten in Singapore and it's comparable to the ramen standards we had when we were in Hokkaido! The chashu is nice too! It's different from the chashu we've seen in other ramen shops in Singapore. The flavoured egg was OMG nice! It was totally worth the half an hour queue!
We will be back!
